Happy Monday, Heartsmarts!
It has been a while since my last post but there are reasons for my absence- I was facing a major setback. While creating my heart’s desire, life has thrown in an emergency with my son whose life depended on our return to the UK.
A setback, for sure, and I know you are familiar with setbacks, too. Whilst going after your heart, you are bound to stumble upon them and they swing in gallantly leaving two things behind guaranteed: they challenge your mindset (your brilliant brain) and they twist your heart, making you question, doubt and re-examine your heart’s desire.
Setbacks and I are good friends, believe me. This week, before heading back to Andalucia, I want to show you what can be done to work effectively with setbacks using your brilliant brain and your powerful heart. For a little ambience while you are reading, here is some music from Andalucia:
Intellectually we know a lot of things about setbacks we habitually call crisis. If you have been on the heart path you have heard that they are for our growth, learning and to become a more evolved human being. The Chinese symbol for the word “crisis” is written using two strokes of a pen. One stroke stands for danger, and the other for opportunity. In a crisis, beware of the danger, but also recognize the opportunity.
All well and good but how are you to proceed when you are experiencing a major setback? My 3-Step HeartSmart process is simple and applicable in most scenarios, so here it goes:
Step 1. Stop looking, start seeing
Instead of frantically chasing your dream, start seeing what you have already created, how shaped your dream already is. Instead of looking at your difficulties, see what is actually working, who is supporting you. Instead of letting your mind be steeped in negativity, use the power of your mind to help you being grateful, heartfelt and soul-driven.
When you do this, you will notice that certain things really need go of your life- negative thoughts that are holding you hostage, people who do not feed your love for what you do or just simply cannot see how important it is for you to carry on, despite your setbacks.
With your brilliant brain make list of all those things and with your compassionate heart say good bye to those negative ideas and people. This is not about dumping; it is about letting go with love, care and compassion of what is not useful any longer. Step 2. Open the door to clarity, purpose and vision
Now clear and lighter, look at your vision once again. Why are you doing what you are doing? What is your vision? What is the purpose behind your perseverance despite the setbacks?
Find your heart. Connect with it to find your motivation that drives you to pursue your dream job or dream life.
Your heart has its own logic and reason and it will tell you that your new business is going to help hundreds of people. It will tell you that you can become a photographer after ten years of corporate banking. It is possible to live your dream life after losing loved ones, bringing up children or being divorced.
Just sit and listen to your heart’s voice. It will whisper to you to choose life over control, choose adventure over boredom. Your heart will tell you to walk on your heart path that looks more challenging but multiple times more rewarding than any head heavy routes in the long haul.
Step 3. Heart+Mind=HeartSmart
Now it is time to put the two things together.
On a piece of paper make your list of things you need for your next steps. List new strategies you need to apply in your new business, people you want to reach out to support your work, ideas you need to learn more about. Do not overthink or overstress, just a few essential ideas would do.
Now create your own master plan by putting your big vision to motion by creating 3 essential steps you will take in the next few weeks. Write down WHAT you will be doing, WHY it is important that you are doing them and HOW you will feel when you have accomplished.
Simple, smart and heartfelt. Just the way we should be living our lives.
